As the threat landscape develops so must the capabilities of solution providers in order to counter the malicious activity. In his address, Seán McGurk will discuss how technology is evolving with the use of intelligence reporting in order to enhance security to reduce risk for critical infrastructure facility operations."

Prior to joining Verizon Mr. McGurk severed in several roles in the federal government,
military and private sector focusing on information assurance and cybersecurity. He has
over 33 years of experience in advanced systems operation and information systems
security. Mr. McGurk served as a member of the Federal Government’s Senior Executive
Service (SES) while at the Department of Homeland Security as the Director of the
National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC). While at DHS
he also served as the Director of the Control Systems Security Program and established
the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT). For
several years he worked as an arms control inspector for the Department of Defense
where he conducted numerous inspections throughout the Soviet Union and subsequent
Commonwealth of Independent States in accordance with the Intermediate Nuclear
Forces (INF), the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) and the Conventional
Armed Forces in Europe Treaties.
Former Director, National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center,
Mr. McGurk served as a member of the federal government’s Senior Executive Service
(SES) as the first Director of this 24X7 integrated cybersecurity and communications
operations center providing indications and warning of incidents through cross domain
situational awareness. The Center included a continually updated, comprehensive picture
of cyber threats, physical communications threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences by
coordinating national response efforts, developing guidance to mitigate risks and resolve
incidents, while working directly with Federal, State, Local, Tribal, Territorial
governments and private sector partners. He supervised the daily execution of the
missions of the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), Industrial
Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT), and National
Coordination Center for Communications (NCC).
Mr. McGurk led the efforts under the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative
(CNCI) to integrate the reporting requirements from the national cybersecurity centers of
the Department of Defense (National Threat Operations Center (NSA NOC), US Cyber
Command Joint Operations Center (USCCOMJOC), the Defense Cyber Crime Center
(DC3), the Department of Justice (National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force
(NCI/JTF) the Intelligence Community (Intelligence Community Incident Response
Center (ICIRC) and the Department of Homeland Security (US-CERT)
